12 Actions to Make the Cidade da Cultura Transparent by Andrés Jaque Arquitectos

Local authorities commissioned Andrés Jaque Arquitectos to design a fence around Peter Eisenman’s Cidade da Cultura – one of the biggest public cultural infrastructures projected in the last decades in Spain– building site while it is under construction.

The young office proposed instead twelve different “actions” to make the construction works, its political and ecological implications more comprehensive to the general public. Different contractors machinery and work force were color-coded, a series of equipments -shelters, toilets and viewpoints– enable the building site boundaries as a public park and different devices were scattered around the historical city center making citizens aware of the construction progress.
