christian, your posts are always so interesting and challenging! While I was reading about the “Ongoing Correspondance” I thought that maybe we are too much obsessed by an “updated culture” as we can see in technology, fashion, ecc…, the anxiety to make things are always correspondent to the continuous changing tastes of consumers, but look [...]

click to enlarge image I had never though that an online workshop could be so exciting. First at all I found very useful the “tag approach” because it offered a new way to design and to read a project beyond the classical paradigms of form, space, light, etc… Second: the blog is a great tool [...]

yeh noa, it’s very interesting what you said, I’ll try to do it but it’s not so easy to visualize…you know, it’s all a continuous flux and otherwise the main points of the posts are the ones I found inspiring, so everything is very subjective. And also it is only a small part of the [...]

I think that one of the greatest thing of this online workshop is the no-stop brainstorming through daily posts, so before to develop others proposals for Stortorget I decided to revise all the reflections made until now and to summarize their contents with key concepts -of course this approach is totally subjective-. Then I extracted [...]

I ended the last post with the purpose to find some meaningful stories reflecting the identity of Hamar and Stortorget square in order to transform them into design language. I think this is a kind of experience that should be done on place, like the Cultural Rucksack that is going in this direction and I’m so [...]

When you said “comfort” it reminds me some reflections inside the book “Le piazze del sapere” -squares of knowledge- by Antonella Agnoli (unfortunately I don’t think the book is currently translated in other languages). The author talks about the characteristics of public open spaces, they are: -dimensions: according to many designers optimal dimensions are like [...]

I found this project: URBANIAHOEVE Social Design Lab for Urban Agriculture: producing foodscape infrastructure since 2010
http://www.urbaniahoeve.nl/
They create also DIY oven and events in the neighbourhood during which residents cook and eat all together. It is a good practice of social cohesion and a chance to preserve the local plant life and biodiversity.

First of all I think that is necessary to built a “culture of partecipation”. Maybe in northern Europe this is a kind of feeling more rooted, but for example in Italy seems that the most part of the people haven’t this mind-aptitude. Partecipation is always desiderable, it’s sure, but the results also depend by the [...]

Well, I think these structures can follow the same disposition of the shelters as we can say in the booklet. A parallel position respect to the main axis church-lake is good because it doesn’t occlude the view from the upper part of the square. About the material I don’t know, an idea might be to [...]

While I was watching those touching videos I tought it would be interesting to know if some Hamar people are starting to feel a sense of community around the design of new Stortorget. I mean, it’s not just to feel citizen of Hamar, but to feel deeply involved in a big project, in a common [...]

It’s very interesting that in two cases (4 and 5) there is a request of something related to the music. Sound/sensorial toys could be appreciated by children as playful tools for music education, and at the same time they could create the “sound-track” of the square!

P.S. As we said yesterday, one of the strategy to prompt people to use a public space is to stimulate their curiosity, and this idea goes in this sense. In addition, the upper part of the shelters could be a more “private” space for example for people who want to read a book or listen [...]

I noticed that one of the problem of the square is the difficulty to see the lake and the landscape because of the Bazar building. So I thought that this disadvantage could be resolved by using the shelters as they are sketched in the booklet, improving them with stairs, for example, that allow people to [...]

in the public space designed by BIG for the neighbourood of Norrebro, Copenhagen, there are a lot of objects like this that allow the user to make sport, exercises or just to have fun.
Another example is the Gulliver in Valencia

Yes Agata, in the paper they talk about three tools to obtain stories and viewpoint, they are: the story cards tool, interview and design probes. I’m researching on internet traditional tales of Hamar, or related to the lake, but it’s not so easy, I guess they are in norwegian.

In this post I’m going to show the first results of the research about the tags Narrative/Storytelling and Community/Collaborative. Since the beginning, in fact, I noticed that the two tags are closely connected as storytelling have to do with cultural transmission and social learning so it has no meaning without a community. The first project is a public space [...]

The good thing of this project is that, compared with the others pavillions, it is a place that offers a service; not just a place where you can see stuff but you can live the place and use it. It works like an infrastucture into the expo, not only an accesory.
